December | Michael Gut Cordero, grade 11
I come from Mexico and have only been here at Schloss Stein boarding school since September. We also celebrate St. Nicholas Day at home, but in a completely different way: St. Nicholas comes at night and the next morning we find fruit and sweets in our shoes, which we put out the night before. We don’t have any big celebrations or dinners together.
The Krampuses were new to me here. They were dressed up, carried rods and chains and it was exciting to see how they “take away” the naughty children. This makes the evening special and provides a lot of fun.
There were two things I liked best about this evening at Schloss Stein: the delicious food and the Christmas carols. Singing together in the back dining room was great fun and the atmosphere was just wonderful. Although I’m a long way from home, I feel really at home here because the sense of community is so strong and everyone enjoys the evening together.
