Our trial week - A successful start to the transition to grammar school

April | Veronika Koch, Headmistress

The transition from Year 4 to grammar school is a significant step for many children – and also for their parents. We have developed a special concept at our school to make this transition as pleasant, transparent and, above all, humane as possible: Trial lessons including a trial week. A central component of this transition in Bavaria is the official trial lesson. This will take place in the 2026 school year from May 19 to May 21, 2026 and will last three days. Pupils demonstrate their skills in written and oral tasks in the subjects German and mathematics. In addition to this, we offer a parallel trial week at our school, which goes far beyond the traditional trial lessons. The children immerse themselves in our everyday school life and gain a holistic impression of what it means to be part of our school.

Experiencing the little ones who are not yet Steiner during the rehearsal days often leads to new years together. These days, when the Abitur exams are approaching, I think of one or two of them from the class, how they started with us as little boys.

In addition to lessons, community activities play a central role. In our Clubs, creative projects, craft activities, movement units and joint breaks, pupils experience school as a lively space. Here they laugh, try things out, create and discover – each and every one of them with their own strengths and interests. It is particularly important to us that we treat each other with respect. Our teachers and educators accompany the children attentively and create an atmosphere of appreciation, openness and security. This creates a space in which the children can unfold and develop confidence in themselves and in the community. The trial week complements the trial lessons so that the pupils spend the entire week with us. It is deliberately not designed purely as an examination situation, but as a supportive and strengthening experience that focuses on the whole person.

This time is also very valuable for us as a school. We gain a comprehensive impression of the children – not only in terms of their performance, but also in terms of their personality, their creativity, their social interaction and their individual development. Our aim is to give every child the best possible start at grammar school. We therefore see the combination of official trial lessons and our real-life trial week as a special opportunity: a first arrival in a supportive community.

We look forward to welcoming the future pupils to our school and accompanying them on their educational journey.
