With this well-known mnemonic, students were welcomed to the exhibition “ROMANS – Faces of an Empire” at the Lokschuppen in Rosenheim, before embarking on a journey through Roman antiquity. Not only was familiar school knowledge about Emperor Augustus and Caesar refreshed, but the Roman Empire was experienced with all the senses. As diverse as the world of smells may be, all students declined the Roman fish sauce, Garum, which the Romans served with every meal.
However, they were all the more enthusiastic when it came to dressing up as a Roman legionary or senator. They were also fascinated by the delicate craftsmanship of the jewelry and the functionality of the tools, which are certainly in no way inferior to those of today. The huge Lego city, which is still under construction until the end of the exhibition, gave everyone an overview of the size and layout of a typical Roman urbs. The highlight at the end of the tour was the computer-animated chariot race, which encouraged the students to try their hand as charioteers.
A mosaic workshop, in which each participant was allowed to make a magnet from various small stones, rounded off the visit to the Lokschuppen.
