May | Imron Nematov, 12th grade
On May 4, we – Bilol, Ali, Javokhir and I – were able to take our school community at Schule Schloss Stein on a special journey. We presented our homeland as part of our “Uzbek Evening” and invited the audience to get to know Uzbekistan in all its colors.
The evening kicked off with a comprehensive presentation on the big screen. We not only highlighted the rich history, culture and current economic and political developments of our country, but also introduced important Uzbek personalities. A particular highlight was the interactive linguistic excursion: due to the influence of the Islamic caliphate in the 8th century, the Uzbek and Spanish languages share a surprising number of Arabic roots despite the enormous geographical distance. It was an impressive moment when our Spanish-speaking classmates were able to accurately guess Uzbek terms just by the similarities to their own mother tongue.
The centerpiece of the event was our 15-minute vlog “An Uzbek Day”. The film took viewers to the historical sights of Uzbekistan. We showed the traditional Chorsu Bazaar, whose hustle and bustle has continued uninterrupted since the times of the Great Silk Road 3000 years ago. The contrast to this was provided by modern Tashkent, which we visited after the bazaar.
The entire evening was characterized by a great, energetic atmosphere. We were able to actively involve our guests through various games and riddles typical of the country and presented them with small gifts from our Uzbek team at the end. The event came to a perfect end thanks to the excellent work of our school’s kitchen team: they provided an unforgettable dinner with Uzbek national dishes.
It was an honor and a great pleasure for us to represent Uzbekistan here in Germany. Evenings like this build valuable bridges of understanding between cultures. Our sincere thanks go to Schule Schloss Stein for this wonderful opportunity and the trust they have placed in us.
