Shrove Tuesday in Stein

Living in a boarding school means that, especially as an international student, you also spend your vacation in Stein. Due to our special location in the foothills of the Alps, however, this can easily be summarized under the motto “Living where others go on vacation”.

During the last carnival vacation, some students, supervised by our teacher Josefina Jelínková, stayed at Stein Castle again. There was certainly no time to get bored. Many used the vacations for a ski course to further improve their skiing skills and collect additional kilometers on the slopes. Back in Stein, however, there was also time to relax. Of course, a little shopping trip was not to be missed, nor was a meal together in the neighboring Steiner Bräustüberl.

From Monday to Friday, we attended a ski course on the Steinplatte. The Steinplatte ski area covers both German and Austrian territory. So you can ski on one side in Bavaria or choose to ski down to Tyrol. Our main aim for the week was to learn to ski better and have lots of fun in the process.

Every morning we took our Steiner shuttle bus to the Steinplatte to ski there. From Monday to Thursday we had lessons with the ski school. There we practiced the basic techniques such as the correct stance, speed control and how to turn correctly. At lunchtime, we ate together with our ski school group in the huts in the ski area.

The ski area is very large and offers many different slopes of all levels of difficulty. This meant it was never boring. Other boys and girls from different parts of Germany and Europe also took part in the ski course. That was really nice because you could get to know new people. We laughed a lot with them and had a really good time overall.

In addition to the sporting learning, it was simply a week full of fun. Living together in Stein, the shared moments on the slopes and all the laughter made this experience extra special.
