Reading & writing workshop with armin Pongs

An all-round successful and inspiring morning lies behind part of our lower school: on April 20, 2026, we welcomed children’s book author Armin Pongs to Schule Schloss Stein. Together with our pupils from Years 5 and 6 and the fourth graders from the Grundschule Nord elementary school in Traunreut, who came to Steiner, they experienced a lively reading from the book series “The Magic Calendar”.

The children then got creative themselves: in a writing workshop, they developed their own stories, exchanged ideas and were able to let their imaginations run wild – guided and inspired by the author. The enthusiasm and commitment of everyone involved made the morning a complete success.
In the following report, our 5th grade describes how the event was experienced from the pupils’ point of view:

On Monday, April 20, 2026, the author Armin Pongs came to Stein to read from his book “The Magic Calendar” in our auditorium. The fifth and sixth grades of Schule Schloss Stein and the 62 pupils of Grundschule Nord from Traunreut took part in the reading. Afterwards there was a writing workshop!

Armin Pongs presented the first volume of his book series “The Magic Calendar” with easily understandable gestures. He read out the first chapter of his book. It was about five friends who had to protect a magical book. After the reading, the children were allowed to write their own story about saving the almost extinct king penguins. With a few guidelines, the children struggled to get their ideas down on paper.

The written stories could be submitted to a writing competition. The deadline for entries is the end of July. The prize is a long weekend at Lake Chiemsee. All in all, it was a very nice day!!!
