We mourn the loss of Percy Adlon, who was one of the founding fathers. Together with his mother, who was the first girls' tutor at the boarding school, he entered our Steiner life as a 13-year-old in 1948, the year the school was founded. Even at a tender age, singing and theater were among his great passions, which he turned into memorable productions and performances with his classmates without much outside guidance.
In retrospect, it is striking how much freedom there was in the social confinement of the late 1940s and 1950s. After graduating from high school and completing classical acting training, he built up a career as a journalist, speaker and presenter at Bayerischer Rundfunk until he found his true self as an auteur filmmaker. With the film "Out of Rosenheim" (Bagdad Café), he achieved a small worldwide success, which enabled him and his wife to move to Pacific Palisades, close to Hollywood, to live their own American dream without ever losing touch with their Bavarian homeland.
He and Eleonore, together with their children Saskia and Felix, maintained a lifelong friendship with the family. The Adlons were present at many important events in Stein . The German film scene has lost an important man, we have lost a great friend.
