About us

Why Stein?

Schloss Stein offers a unique environment for learning and living. Small classes and individual, holistic support create ideal conditions for personal and academic development. Annual development goals and supervised learning times help our pupils to develop their potential in the best possible way.

A special feature of our school is the development logbook. It is kept individually for each of our approximately 100 pupils. This is where we set out the development goals (developed by the young people themselves from Year 8 onwards) and document the degree to which they have achieved their goals as well as their personal development, learning success and progress in extracurricular activities - in line with our motto "Growing together".

Modern sports facilities such as our climbing hall and the innovative ASB glass floor sports hall are fun and encourage sporting activities. The excellent cuisine also contributes to your well-being: It spoils you with fresh, healthy and regional dishes.

In addition, numerous events at Schloss Stein offer special inspiration. Highlights such as the Literature Week, the School Olympics, the Youth Forum, the Young Ambassadors program and the festive Winter Ball create unforgettable experiences and promote community and creativity.

Schloss Stein is a special place where young people "grow together" in a family-like community.

Our boarding school Schloss Stein , is situated in a breathtaking geographical location. It is surrounded by the picturesque foothills of the Alps, which offer a wealth of activities. From first-class hiking opportunities to exciting skiing in winter - nature is our playground for sporting adventures and relaxation in equal measure.

The Alz, an idyllic river, also meanders through the area and invites you to take a swim, a raft trip or a leisurely stroll along the banks.

Thanks to our ideal location, the cultural treasures of Salzburg and Munich are also within easy reach. From historical sights to first-class museums and vibrant urban life, our students have the opportunity to explore the diversity of these fascinating cities and broaden their cultural awareness.

A SCHOOL WITH HISTORY

Schloss Steinonce the private home of a businesswoman, became the founding site of our boarding school in 1948. The unique combination of home and education still characterizes our identity today. The picturesque landscape of the Chiemgau offers our students an inspiring environment in which they can experience nature and culture up close. Schloss Stein is therefore not only a place of learning, but also a place where history comes alive.

"Kids, we're making a school! Who's coming?"

Ilse Wiskott | Founder - Quote on the founding of the school

Arrowhead from the Bronze Age

The beginnings

Archaeologists found a Bronze Age burial ground and Celtic arrowheads on the castle grounds, which bear witness to early settlement. Built in the 13th century, the stronghold is home to historical treasures such as the cave castle and a hermit's hermitage. The history of the castle complex is interwoven with the legend of the robber baron Heinz von Stein, who is said to have wreaked havoc here in the wild times without an emperor. A rich saga that goes back to the time of the Carolingians.

1948 - The beginning

The early years of the boarding school were shaped by Ilse and Max Wiskott, who started a boarding school and school initiative for their daughter Isolde in 1948. Ilse Wiskott played a key role in shaping the school with her personal commitment and dedication until her death in 1964.

Angelika and Olaf Ziegler

The 60s

Under the management of Olaf Ziegler (here with his wife Angelika Ziegler), the school experienced a social upheaval in the 1960s. In 1976, under Dr. Peter Wabra, the school succeeded in gaining state recognition and converting the old language branch into a new language and economics branch.

From 1992 until today

Since 1992, Sebastian Ziegler, the third-generation director, has played a key role in the development of the boarding school. Under his leadership, the school has increasingly opened up to international pupils, while at the same time preserving its German-speaking roots.

"It was a dream to be here from the very beginning."
