What happened at Stein after the Wiskott era - the founding era?
The son of the house, Olaf Ziegler (from the first marriage of Mrs. Stein founder Ilse Wiskott), finally returned home from captivity as a prisoner of war in France.
He had no school-leaving certificate, had to come to terms with the terrible memories of the war years and get used to a "normal" life again.
As a late returnee, he was allowed to take his A-levels under difficult circumstances.
Of course, the mother would have liked her son to become a business economist and take over the entire family business.
At first, he complied with this wish. He worked at the Hofbräuhaus brewery in Munich, and consequently began the desired business studies. But Olaf Ziegler had a beautiful baritone voice and a connection to Richard Wagner and his family. In the end, he was much more interested in music than business administration.
In a roundabout way, he came to education, which then fascinated him for the rest of his life. He studied to become a secondary school teacher in Berlin, so he was no layman in the field.
When his mother died unexpectedly in 1964, he naturally attended the funeral.
The question arose as to how to continue with Stein ? Actually, Angelika and Olaf Ziegler had no real intention of taking over, but both students and staff told him: "Olaf, you have to do it."
And so he actually did it!
In 1967, the farm was given up. The animals were sold and the land leased. The fact that it was a farm can still be recognized by various names, such as Kuhstall, Saustall, and others.
Of course, the general rebellion of young people also took hold in Stein at that time!
Hippies, flower children, all the signs of the times (the wild '68 years) were also lived out to the full in our boarding school: it was an exciting time, even if it wasn't always so easy for the head couple.
More about the hippie era in our article about the 70s...
