Anyone who thinks of Schule Schloss Stein cannot overlook his name. Stein proudly presents: Markus Koch. As a sports teacher, head of vocational orientation, supervisor of the most popular Clubs—tennis, climbing, and skiing—as well as chairman of the works council, he is an indispensable part of our school and boarding life. Whether on the tennis court, at the climbing wall, or as a substitute for the younger boys, Markus Koch is everywhere he is needed. With his open nature, his commitment, and his infectious enthusiasm, he always ensures a good atmosphere.
Why Stein?
For me, Stein is not just a family—it is a place where I can express myself, pass on my sport to the students, and do so in a way that is only possible here. The small classes and the intensive contact with the students make Stein unique for me. Therefore: Stein, absolutely!
What is your favorite place in Stein?
The most beautiful place for me is the beach volleyball court. This is where everything that is important to me comes together: playing together, sporting ambition, and team spirit. You fight together, cheer each other on, and grow as a group—whether during an intensive match or simply while sitting together relaxed by the fire pit after sports with a drink in hand. This place stands for community, passion, and the special atmosphere that makes Schloss Stein so unique.
What is your goal as a teacher and educator?
Through my own sporting behavior and my ambition, I want to show my students what it means to set goals, stay the course, and grow beyond themselves. I challenge them and motivate them—not only in class but also during joint ventures, excursions, and sporting activities.

»Markus Koch is a central figure in the boarding house and school. He has a great deal of experience in looking after children and a genuine motivational quality for any physical activity—whether in PE lessons or in the project seminar. He manages not only to trigger enthusiasm but also to achieve perseverance. The Steiners are grateful to him every time for such experiences. During the season, Markus Koch also regularly takes our students skiing during the week. A major sporting highlight the year before last was the Alpine crossing with his senior students on bicycles to Lake Garda. We particularly value his spontaneity—quickly jumping into our river with the students in summer or going for a swim does everyone good. In this way, he brings sporting virtues into the hearts and minds of the Steiners as genuine elements of pedagogy.«
